    The Canadian Oncology Societies was founded in 1976 when several oncologists joined together with a common interest, through the efforts of Dr. Carl Reise, a surgical oncologist from Winnipeg. In 1974, Dr. Reise took the initiative to the Canadian Cancer Society. This initiative was then supported by Dr. Anthony Miller and after two meetings in 1975 (Royal College, January 1975 and NCIC, March 1975), an agreement was reached to form the Canadian Oncology Societies. The first annual meeting of the Canadian Oncology Societies was held on January 26, 1977 in Toronto with 66 founding members in attendance. Dr. Reise was the founding president and Dr. Anthony Miller of Toronto, the first Secretary/Treasurer.
